Support the Ritz Ballroom
Mar 01, 2015
28th February 2015 we performed at the well known Ritz Ballroom Brighouse. It was a great night with a good turn out!
The dancers were absolutely brilliant, So many different styles it was a joy to watch from the stage.
At the end of a fabulous evening new owner Glenn revealed to us that he will no longer be putting on Rock'n'Roll bands due to numbers being low, BUT he said he would continue with a record hop every last saturday of the month. He said that Rock'n'Roll has played a big part in the clubs history and if the numbers were to rise then he could think about re-introducing R'N'R band nights.
So if you like Rock'n'Roll, Jive, Swing please get in touch and support the record hops.
Heres a little bit about the Club.
The Ritz first opened as a cinema by Union Cinemas Chain in March 1937 and closed June 1961.
It was then converted into a Bingo Hall but only lasted 10 weeks; it then became The Stardust Casino and Theatre Club in 1965.
The Casino closed in 1970, but the theatre club continued for a time before becoming Sammy’s Disco.
The building was bought in 1979 by the late Mr Joe Narey, who installed the beautiful Canadian maple sprung dance floor and opened The Ritz as a Ballroom in 1981.
1987 Alan & Pauline Olbison bought the building and changed the name to The New Ritz Ballroom, making it a very successful dance venue and sold the Ritz 27 years later due to retirement to Glenn Smith.
Current owner Glenn will continue to promote the Ritz into the North’s Premier live music venue.
